The Y2K digicam look, free

Photos from a 2006 point-and-shoot have a colour nobody planned: cyan creeping into the shadows, a direct flash that flattens faces, soft CCD detail, and highlights that clip to white a little too early. Twenty years on it reads as a time — the camera that came before the phone.

Cyan2006 is that camera. It shifts the shadows cool, lifts the flash, softens the fine detail the way a small CCD sensor did, and clips the highlights where a compact would have.

How to use it

  1. Open the tool and drop in a photo — flash photos and indoor snapshots work best.
  2. Set Cool for how far the shadows drift to cyan and Warmth for the skin the flash left behind.
  3. Glow is the blown flash and soft small-sensor detail; Punch is the contrast a compact added on its own. Then export.
  4. Turn on the date stamp for the orange corner date every digicam printed.

FAQ

What is the Y2K digicam aesthetic?

The look of photos from early-2000s compact digital cameras: cool cyan shadows, hard direct flash, soft detail from small CCD sensors and early clipping in the highlights. It has come back as a deliberate style.

Does it add a date stamp?

Optionally — the date stamp is a separate switch, in the orange digits those cameras printed.

Is it free?

Yes, free with no account. Your photo never leaves your browser.
